Why this course
Through years of experimenting with tactics to reduce the amount of time I spent in front of screens I learned the following things…
Screen time must be thought of “holistically.” It does not save any time to access a site or watch a video on a computer rather than a phone.
It is the “unintentional” screen time that matters. It’s not just about the total number of hours spent in front of screens. Working, to earn a living and hopefully get personal satisfaction as well, is important. There are also plenty of “intentional” uses of screens, such as watching a movie with family or booking travel that is not necessarily a bad use of time.
The behavior must be replaced. This is human nature. It’s often not enough to just eliminate an activity from someone’s life. Behaviors must be replaced with something new. Whatever behaviors we take part in, good or bad, are filling some kind of need, even if it is just to occupy our time. To be effective in this endeavor, we can’t just reduce screen time, we must replace the behavior with something.
The journey is different for everyone. We all are different people, with different desires, strengths and weaknesses. A tactic that may work for one person will not work for another
Unlike other methods, this course takes all these lessons into account
